Our NOPE List - Just to Name A Few

  • Parabens (Methylparaben, Propylparaben, etc.) – Linked to hormone disruption and potential reproductive harm. We skip ‘em because your endocrine system deserves a break.

    Phthalates (DBP, DEHP) – Found in fragrance; can mess with hormones and fertility. Not cute, not safe, not welcome.

    Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) & Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES) – Harsh detergents that strip natural oils and irritate skin. We’re about nourishing, not sandblasting.

    Synthetic Fragrance – A cocktail of hidden chemicals that can trigger allergies, migraines, and hormone disruption. We stick to pure essential oils.

    Formaldehyde & Formaldehyde-Releasing Preservatives (DMDM Hydantoin, Quaternium-15) – Known carcinogens. If it preserves dead bodies, it has no business in your moisturizer.

  • Petrolatum & Mineral Oil – Derived from crude oil; can clog pores and lock in toxins. We prefer plant-based oils that breathe with your skin.

    Talc – Can be contaminated with asbestos, a known carcinogen. We’ll take silky skin without the cancer risk, thanks.

    Oxybenzone & Octinoxate – Chemical sunscreens linked to hormone disruption and coral reef damage. Mother Nature and your hormones both vote “no.”

    BHA (Butylated Hydroxyanisole) & BHT (Butylated Hydroxytoluene) – Synthetic antioxidants that can be toxic to the liver and thyroid. We choose antioxidants from plants, not a lab.

    Polyethylene Glycols (PEGs) – Can be contaminated with carcinogens like ethylene oxide. We keep our lotions clean and free of chemical hitchhikers.

  • DEA, MEA, TEA (Ethanolamines) – Can form carcinogenic nitrosamines. If it’s toxic in your shampoo, it’s toxic in your bloodstream.

    Methoxyethanol & Other Glycol Ethers – Can harm fertility and fetal development. Nope, nope, nope.

    Paraffin & Microcrystalline Wax – Petroleum-based fillers that suffocate skin. We go for breathable, plant-based alternatives.

    Chlorphenesin – Preservative that can cause muscle relaxation and nervous system effects. Not the kind of “relaxing” we’re after.

    Isobutyl & Isopropyl Parabens – Even more endocrine disruptors in disguise. Still not invited.

    Retinyl Palmitate (Synthetic Vitamin A) – Can cause skin sensitivity and increase cancer risk when exposed to sunlight. We stick to safe, natural sources of vitamin A.

Beyond the EU: Our Standard Is Uncompromising

The European Union (EU) sets some of the strictest cosmetic safety regulations in the world, banning or restricting over 1,600 ingredients that have been linked to health risks such as hormone disruption, skin irritation, and even long-term toxicity. Unlike many other regions, the EU requires rigorous safety assessments, full ingredient transparency, and proof that products are non-toxic before they ever hit the market.

Our Slap A Hippie skincare line goes beyond these already high EU standards—because your skin deserves more than “safe enough.” It deserves products that are radically pure, wildly effective, and completely free from the junk that never should’ve been in skincare in the first place.

At Slap A Hippie, we believe that what goes on your body is just as important as what goes in it. That’s why we hold our ingredients to the highest standard of safety and purity. Every oil, butter, and botanical we use must come with verifiable testing, including advanced methods like GC–MS analysis, which ensures that ingredients are free from adulteration, pesticides, and hidden synthetics. These tests provide a chemical fingerprint of each ingredient, so we can guarantee authenticity and integrity in every jar and bottle we make.

In addition to GC–MS testing, we require documentation that verifies microbiological safety, stability, and the absence of heavy metals and contaminants. We partner only with trusted suppliers who can provide these third-party test results, because transparency and quality are non-negotiable for us. When you choose our skincare, you can feel confident knowing that each product has been crafted from ingredients that meet rigorous standards of purity—never watered down, never compromised.
